We are halfway through the month of October, and the fishing on Lake Fork is a little up and down. The fish are scattered and can literally be caught from 1 foot of water to 30 feet of water on a multitude of lures. Needless to say, this is making my job difficult at times!!!

As of this writing, the lake level is 397.17 (5.83 ft below full pool), and water temps are in the mid-70s. We got a good rain this past Sunday night and Monday morning, and the lake came up about 3". Needless to say, we need a LOT of rain this fall and winter.

The most consistent bite for me has been the shallow bite. I have been starting the mornings with a buzzbait in the back half of some of the smaller creeks and pockets. We are throwing both black skirts and white skirts, and both seem to be producing about the same number of strikes. After the topwater bite slows down, I am picking up a 3/8 oz white chatter bait with a 3.5" Lake Fork Live Magic Shad as my trailer. The key to this is covering as much water as you can. Wind blown banks and points will produce better than the calm side.

For the deep bite, I am using my Lowrance electronics to locate schools of bass, white bass, and yellow bass on deep points, humps, and road beds. These fish can be caught on a flutter spoon, jigging spoon, drop shot, and a Carolina rig. With the spoons, you will catch a big number of white bass and yellow bass, so if you want to catch a ton of fish or have kids that just want to catch a bunch of fish, this is the way to go.

The deep bite will continue to get better, making November one of my favorite months of the year to fish Lake Fork. If you would like to come get in on some of that action, I still have a handful of November dates available.
