February has always been one of my favorite months for trophy bass on Lake Fork, and February 2024 has been nothing short of incredible.
Our weather has been warmer than normal, and we have had a ton of fish move up shallow, and quite a few of those have started the spawning process. Our big bass of the month weighed 10.11 lbs, but we caught a lot of bass over 6 pounds this month.
We started off the month throwing a lot of moving baits: Santone Spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, Santone Swim Jigs, lipless crankbaits, square bill crankbaits, and swimbaits were all effective at one time or another.
We also spent some time with the Garmin Livescope looking for those big girls who weren't quite ready to move shallow. It's a "hunting trip", but it is a very effective way to target that bass of a lifetime.
Once the water got into the 60s and the bass started to spawn, we picked up the Hyper Stick by Lake Fork Trophy Lures. If you haven't tried a Hyper Stick yet, you need to add them to your arsenal. They're very similar to a Senko, but they have their own unique action, and they really shine when fished on a weightless Texas rig. It's hard to explain the action, but it's different, and it's a difference maker.
As of this writing, the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on Lake Fork is taking place, and Lake Fork is showing the world how great this fishery can be.
February 2024 was fantastic, and I can hardly wait to see what we do in March!!!
