Lake Fork Fishing Report - April 6, 2014

April is here, and the spawn on Lake Fork is in full swing. There are fish on beds in almost every creek on the lake, and there are plenty more that are waiting their turn.

The water temps are ranging from 58-61 on the main lake, and it is several degrees warmer than that in the backs of the creeks.

We have been catching most of our fish on a Santone Piglet Shaky head. I opt for the round ball 3/16 oz Piglet most of the time, but if the wind is blowing too much, I will switch us to a 1/4 oz head. The main thing that differnentiates the Piglet from other shaky heads on the market is it's hook. It's perfect for catching big bass in heavy cover. I throw it on no less than 15 lb line. Right now, I am targeting spawning fish in 1-6 ft of water. I'm not sight fishing, but instead, I am blind casting the spawning areas in the very backs of the creeks and pockets. Work the bait just a few inches at a time with small shakes in between movements.

Oak Ridge Marina and Lake Fork Marina both carry the Piglet here on the lake, and Tackle Warehouse carries them online as well.

If you have any questions, or if you'd like to book a trip, please send me an email and I will get back with you ASAP. If I am already booked, I work with several other very good guides that I can put you in contact with.

Here are a few fish we have caught the past couple of weeks:
