Lake Fork Fishing Report 2026: Great Bass Fishing on Lake Fork

It has been a while since I've posted a Lake Fork fishing report, but after the kind of fishing we've experienced this year, I wanted to give everyone an update on the lake and what I'm seeing from the boat.

The short version: Lake Fork bass fishing has been excellent in 2026.

We've had a great year overall on Lake Fork. As of this report, the lake is approximately 3 feet below full pool, and water temperatures have been running in the mid to upper 80s, which is pretty typical for this time of year.

Lake Fork Bass Fishing Has Improved Dramatically

One of the biggest changes I've seen on Lake Fork this year is the improvement in both the size and number of bass.

The grass has come back in a big way in many areas of the lake, and I believe that has made a huge difference in the success of our spawns. The additional vegetation has provided much-needed cover, and the bass population has really responded.

For a while, Lake Fork was struggling. Low water levels and a lack of vegetation had a significant impact on the lake's bass population. We were missing some important year classes of fish, and you could see the difference in our catches. Both the quality and quantity of bass weren't what we had become accustomed to seeing on Lake Fork.
Fortunately, that has changed.

My customers have caught more bass between 6 and 9 pounds this year than they have since 2015. We've also had more 20-plus-fish days than I can remember having in a long time.
The arrow is definitely pointing up for Lake Fork.

If you've been waiting for the right time to come back to Lake Fork, 2026 has been a very good year to do it.

Lake Fork Fishing Conditions

Current Lake Fork conditions are approximately:
Lake level: About 3 feet below full pool
Water temperature: Mid to upper 80s
Bass fishing: Very good
Bass size: Excellent, with numerous fish in the 6–9 pound range
Vegetation: Grass has returned strongly in many areas

Conditions will continue to change as we move into fall, but the overall outlook is very positive.

Best Baits for Lake Fork Bass This Fall

Fall is one of my favorite times to fish Lake Fork because the bass can become very aggressive as water temperatures begin to cool.

For anglers who like to fish shallow, I'll be throwing a variety of moving baits, including:

Topwater baits
Chatterbaits
Swimbaits
Crankbaits

The returning grass should continue to play an important role as bass move shallow and begin feeding more aggressively.

For anglers targeting deeper fish, I'll be relying on proven Lake Fork techniques such as:

Carolina rigs
Drop shots
Jigging spoons
Other deep-water presentations as conditions dictate

One of the great things about Lake Fork is that you can often catch fish shallow or deep depending on the conditions and what the bass are doing that particular day.

What to Expect for Fall Fishing on Lake Fork

As we move into fall, I expect some excellent days for numbers with some big Lake Fork bass mixed in.

If you enjoy shallow-water fishing, fall is a great time to be on the lake. As the water cools, we'll be looking for bass around grass and other shallow cover while following the bait.
And with the improved bass population we've seen this year, I'm expecting plenty of opportunities for quality fish.
