Lake Welsh Fishing Report - January 27, 2013

Took my clients to Lake Welsh as they were interested in learning how to better catch bass in the grass while catching a good number of fish. There's no better lake in our area for accomplishing those two goals than Lake Welsh!

The lake is up a few inches since the big rains about 10 days ago, and there are acres and acres of hydrilla in both the upper and lower ends. Water temps ranged from 78 degrees at the boat ramp to 63 in other parts of the lake. Water clarity, as usual, was very good.

We had cloud cover most of the day, and just a little bit of wind - perfect conditions for throwing a topwater. We were able to boat several nice fish on small poppers, and our trail boat caught a bunch as well. We also caught a good number of fish on a wacky worm and soft plastic swimbaits like the new the LFT Boottail Live Magic Shad.

We finished the day with approximately 30 in the boat, and we missed/lost a few more, and our trail boat put 12 in the boat by himself. Overall, it was a good day - especially considering the fishing pressure that the lake received the day before!!!

Fishing should remain very good for the next few weeks, so if you're interested in booking a trip to Welsh, please give me a call or drop me an email.
